Role Summary:
We are seeking a motivated VAT Executive with 1 year of experience in VAT compliance and advisory services to join our growing tax team. The successful candidate will assist in delivering VAT compliance and advisory services to a diverse portfolio of local and international clients while developing their technical expertise in Maltese and EU VAT matters.
Responsibilities:
VAT Compliance:
-Prepare and review VAT returns for a portfolio of clients.
-Assist clients with VAT registrations, deregistration and amendments.
-Monitor VAT filing deadlines and ensure timely submissions.
-Assist with EC Sales Lists, Intrastat declarations and other VAT-related compliance obligations.
-Maintain accurate VAT records and client files.
VAT Advisory:
-Assist in researching VAT legislation and case law.
-Support senior team members in preparing VAT advisory reports and client opinions.
-Assist in analysing VAT implications of local and international transactions.
-Draft responses to routine VAT queries from clients.
-Monitor legislative developments and communicate relevant updates internally.
Client Management:
-Liaise directly with clients regarding VAT compliance matters.
-Build and maintain strong professional relationships with clients.
-Communicate with the Malta Tax and Customs Administration on client matters where required.
-Participate in client meetings and assist in preparing meeting notes and follow-up actions.
Internal Development:
-Participate in technical training and continuous professional education.
-Contribute to internal knowledge-sharing initiatives.
-Assist in preparing technical articles, newsletters and presentations on VAT topics.
-Develop broader tax awareness where opportunities arise.
Requirements:
-ACCA student, or ACCA qualified, or University degree in Accountancy, Taxation, or a related field.
-Minimum 1 year of experience in VAT compliance, accounting, audit, or tax.
-Basic understanding of Maltese VAT legislation and EU VAT principles.
-Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
-Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
-Good organisational and time-management skills.
-High attention to detail.
-Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Desirable:
-Experience dealing with VAT returns and VAT registrations.
-Exposure to VAT advisory work.
-Experience using accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
-Additional tax or VAT-related qualifications.
